plan for the future

PLAN FOR MOVING THE CITY OF BOONVILLE FORWARD

  • Earning my pay.
    • Members of the City Council are paid $10,700 per year
    • At a modest wage of $15-20 per hour, that comes to between 10-13 hours per week
    • With the City Council only meeting once a month, I will be:
      • Spending time at City Hall and home working on financing, ordinances, researching issues and talking to city leaders in other communities.
      • Working with outside grant writers that can bring in more money for the City at a lower cost
      • Meeting with city department heads concerning citizen concerns.
      • Walking neighborhoods talking to constituents and having district 4 town hall meetings.
      • Attending community functions to stay in tune with all facets of Boonville life.
      • Meeting with other members of the administration and an independent city financial planner to continue to lay out a solid, financially responsible plan for Boonville based on reducing debt and accurate forecasting of revenue.
        • Boonville’s tax rate is currently 99th worst out of 118 cities/towns in the same category.
        • At the end of 2018, Boonville had the 5th most debt for cities with populations of 5,000-10,000.  There are 40 cities this size in Indiana.
        • At the end of 2018, Boonville’s per capita debt was in the top 16% for the entire State. Per capita debt is the municipal debt owed by each citizen (including children). Nearly $5000 each.
  • Work on a viable financial and maintenance plan for Quail Crossing Golf Course so that it does not continue to be a financial drain on the taxpayers of Boonville.
  • Working with local businesses
    • I will work closely with local businesses to point them toward grants for buildings, and startup costs.
    • Meet regularly with groups like Boonville Now and the Merchant’s Association to bring new unique businesses to downtown.
  • Transparency
    • Developing a website that is up to date and accurately informs citizens of where the money comes from and where it is being spent.
    • This website needs to be secure and contain secure email addresses for all employees at City Hall and all department heads. This will allow constant contact with Boonville’s citizens.
    • The website needs to have minutes of all meetings posted within a day or two of the meeting.
    • Establishing a City Council Meeting Agenda well in advance of the meeting that is fluid and is posted on the website and at City Hall.
  • Finally, I promise to:
    • Follow all governing documents for running a municipality.
    • Use good judgement.
    • Do my due diligence such as research and seeking advice in decision making.
    • Make decisions in the best interest of the City and my constituents
    • Avoid conflicts of interest
